Paranormal Activity: New Horror Flick

I am really excited to see Paramount’s horror flick Paranormal Activity. I love watching this kind of movies since the released of The Blair Witch Project years ago – maybe because of the concept of video footage showing the realism of events, creepy.. same with the movie Cloverfield which on the other hand I didn’t get the story. The movie tells a story of a couple played by Micah Stoat and Katie Featherston living on a haunted house knowing that a creepy thing is happening inside the house and now Micah popped out his video camera in their bedroom and record any unusual phenomena, so they’ll know what awful thing happened the previous night, while they were sleeping. I made a research about this latest from Paramount and even Steven Spielberg wanted to do a remake of it but he refused to do it for some reason. Shot three years ago by Israeli-born videomaker Oren Peli with an $11,000 budget and ended in a week using his own house. This low-budget movie is now building acclaim since it screened at the Slamdance film festivals  last year and this year Paranormal Activity is doing a campaign and Paramount grabbed the fever and urging fans to “demand” online for a wider realease of the movie. If you gonna visit Paramount’s website, they put a demand button there, it’s because of the massive requests – allowing Paramount’s website to brag that PA was “the first-ever major film release decided by You.”

They have released a brand new movie trailer, which consists mostly of reactions to a test screening. Smart move.  I must warn you, one of the shots in the trailer is from very late in the film, and could be considered a spoiler.

The film consists entirely of home video footage, which is probably why it’s drawing comparisons to Blair Witch. But I assure you, this film crams a lot more story and character development into 10 minutes than the entire Blair Witch, and the crappy sequel.

Happy Halloween.

Watch the new trailer.

I can’t say I have like an of the more modern movies. The Exorcists really set the standard and none other than the exorcist has given my nightmares, but we shall see, or I shall see. Maybe it will be worthwhile.
